Gary Sinise on the road in Iraq

I got to sit down last night and watch this show about Gary Sinise and his USO trip to Iraq. It was all about the troops and his passion for going over there to visit with the troops and to tell them thanks. This was by the best show I have ever seen about the troops and how one man is trying his best to bring a smile to those soldiers faces over there. This show was amazingly touching and showed Gary being choked up a couple of times when troops would pass him thank you notes and such. Gary was awarded a medal from the President Bush for all the work he does with the USO, but after watching this show you will see it is not about the awards or the accolades. It is about his passion to help the troops as they are far away from home. Our family and friends are over there doing what they do best and are putting their lives on the line everyday to protect our freedoms we so enjoy. You may not support the war or the reasons we are there, but YOU MUST support the troops. They are our family, friends and neighbors and we want them all to come home safe. Here is Garys Blog and photos of the trip

If you have a chance to catch this show as a re-run or a webcast you MUST sit down and watch this, it is quite humbling and introspective. My hats off to you Gary and the LT Dan Band, a heartfelt thanks as well for letting us take a peek at what you do when you go over there, your selflessness is awe inspiring and truly touching.

And thanks to FOX news for getting this put together with Gary and airing this for us to see. In a media market dominated by all the bad things that are going on in the world and most media outlets just put together bag pieces on the war and the troops it was nice to see a inspiring piece about our brave men and women who are over there and just how special these people are.

And like Gary says in the show if you happen to be somewhere and see one of our troops in Uniform be it the airport the gas station where ever walk up and say thanks and give them a hug a pat on the back whatever. Just let them know we appreciate them and we support them and we are thankful for everything they do.

lxde small and fast

Well I have been keeping on eye on lxde for awhile now and so I installed it and have been using it quite extensively. It is really nice and really fast. For those of you who don’t know lxde uses Openbox as its base window manager then has built several apps to go with it. It makes for a very fast and very versatile desktop with some great customization options if you wish to pursue that route.

lxde comes with pcmanfm as its file manager which is a excellent stand alone file manager. There are also apps like lxAppearance to change your gtk themes icons and other misc settings. lxde also comes with lxpanel which is alot like the gnome panel. lxterminal is also included and is a very simple and easy to use terminal. It does lack some configuration options like customizing the terminal colors and such but I am sure those are on the way in the near future. The lxrun command is bound to Alt+F2 so if you are used to hitting that key combo to start and app if will feel like normal to you.

All in all give lxde a shot it is quite fast and smooth and runs well even on older hardware and is easy to use, watch for more help and setup tricks here as I dig more deeply on what can and cannot be done, enjoy !!
