Contributions back to the community are important I agree, and alot of people jumped up and said Ubuntu is nothing more than a marketing company more than a linux distro. Now in some respects this may be true but due to the great marketing campaign of Ubuntu linux is becoming more and more popular. So would you consider this a contribution back to the community ? Is this marketing not beneficial to linux and the community as a whole ?

You and a lot of other people are clearly missing the point here. The issue is Canonical's dismal contributions to GNOME. Not to the "community". This is a serious issue, as Canonical's self-professed focus is the DESKTOP. Ubuntu's default DESKTOP happens to be GNOME! So please don't downplay this by deflecting with the whole "But they've brought more people to Linux". Every distro brings more people to Linux. This has been going on before the advent of Ubuntu, and people will continue to flock to Linux after Ubuntu.

Contributions to GNOME, my friend. Canonical isn't contributing much to Gnome, because Canonical is not interested in nurturing Gnome, rather the direction seems to be to effectively fork Gnome. And that's no contribution to anyone.

Can you tell me more about those translucent move fixes ? I had issues on Hardy Heron and a slightly different one with e16 1.0.0 (as packaged by Ubuntu Lucid Lynx).
